Each day in October, which is LGBT History Month, Huffington post has featured a different LGBT icon.

Today’s icon- Ifti Nasim

“Nasim broached the topic of homosexuality in religion and conservative culture. He wrote, “Narman,” the first believed book in Urdu that centered on gay storylines. He immigrated to the U.S. from Pakistan in 1971. In an interview with Chicago radio station, WBEZ, Nasim said, “In Islamic society, gays have no place… America sold the gay culture to me back home. They’re living happily ever after in America. That’s my place, I’ve got to go to America. I was sold. Completely sold.””

Come to SAFE’s Beloved Masquerade, a benefit for Oklahoma City Youth United (OKCYU) on Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. in Ballroom B of the Nigh University Center! There will be tons of ghoulish treats and spooky activities!

Free Admission with various (and cheap) activities. ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT OKLAHOMA CITY YOUTH UNITED!

::COSTUME CONTEST INFO::
Entry is $2.00. Prizes for 1st and 2nd Place. Judging panel will be compiled of UCO Faculty and Staff and other non-participating adults.

::FOOD CONTEST INFO::
Entry is FREE, you just need to bring a food item that you made! Prizes will be given to Best Tasting and Best Presentation. Judging panel will be compiled of UCO Faculty and Staff and other non-participating adults.

::SONG REQUEST INFO::
DJ Chris Glitter will be taking song requests for $1.00!

::GAMES AND ACTIVITIES::
There will be various games and activities to win prizes throughout the night. Each will cost $1.00.

::DOOR PRIZES::
Door Prize tickets are FREE! There will be various drawings throughout the night, with the biggest door prize being given away at the end of the night. You must be present to win!


SAFE

The Student Alliance for Equality (SAFE) is a registered student organization that provides support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, faculty, staff members, alumni, and allies at the University of Central Oklahoma, as well as for members of the surrounding communities.

SAFE sponsors educational programs and advocates tolerance and equality for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. SAFE promotes friendship and acceptance by sponsoring social events within a safe environment, and it serves as a liaison between the UCO campus and the wider community through its involvement in student government, campus committees, and off-campus activities and initiatives. SAFE also provides information on GLBT issues through forums, public speakers, a resource library, and support groups. In addition, SAFE sponsors the UCO Safe-Zone Ally Program, and it collaborates with community organizations on a variety of initiatives and programs.
