What a powerful performance!!!

This week is board meeting week..

At youth group (ages 14-20) we will be brainstorming ideas to bring to the board meeting. Start thinking about what OKCYU wants to do in the near future….

Things to think about

  • PRIDE
    • Float decorations
    • Booth volunteers
    • Promotional materials- what do we want to have available to give other pride patrons?
  • Summer meetings
    • Do we want speakers?
    • Movie ideas
  • Formalizing meeting guidelines (privacy/ confidentiality/ how we treat one another)
    • For youth
    • For facilitators

Leave a comment with other things that you want to talk about- events, fundraisers, volunteers that want to get involved….

We are always looking for more adult volunteers/ facilitators/ advocacy-minded folks. Please CONTACT US if you want to be involved! Check out the volunteers tab and email us at [email protected] to get more involved.

As always Youth United meets at First Unitarian Church in OKC on 13th and Dewey. We would love to see you this week and hear your brilliant ideas!

“Luke Hill is now just a memory in the minds of those who loved him, a blue-eyed ghost in a portrait. Katie Hill is flesh and bone, long hair and limbs, breasts and eyelashes. A happy 16-year-old who believes it’s not her fault she was born into the wrong body. And by burying Luke and becoming Katie, she has righted what nature made wrong.”

“Katie Hill tries not to take it personally when people don’t understand what transgender means. She didn’t know herself for a long time. A common assumption is that it’s something like a drag queen, or a person who likes to dress up in the opposite gender’s clothing on occasion. Except for transgender individuals, it’s not about the costume or outfit. They genuinely feel like the gender they’re born into simply doesn’t fit.”

About Herland

Herland has been serving the women’s community since 1983. We provide resources for the women’s community to strengthen, enrich, and support women, and to promote a world free of prejudice, oppression and exploitation.

Herland is a womanist organization with a strong lesbian focus. However, Herland is not restricted to just lesbians. All women are welcome.

Herland is a nonprofit organization operated entirely by volunteers. We publish a monthly newsletter, operate a bookstore and lending library, and host a wide array of social and educational activities and services.

Volunteers are always needed, welcomed, and appreciated. Speak with any board member about becoming a volunteer or joining a committee.
